Where and when were you born?
I was born in Tampa, Florida (home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) on March 26, 1965. To two loving and supportive Christian parents, Philip and Nancy Grant.
When did you get into radio and why?
My involvement in radio began in the spring of 2009. I received an email stating that the station was looking for a part time morning host. I was very familiar with Way Radio's mission and ministry being a long time listener, but I had never done radio before. I thought it would be a fun experience that would not interfere with my ministry as Pastor of Lake Asbury Baptist Church. So I applied and after several interviews here I am. I don't look at my work at the station as a second job but rather as an extension of my calling to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, just in a different format.
When did my relationship with Jesus start?
Growing up in a Christian home, with loving and supportive parents, I had a wonderful childhood and was blessed in many ways. However, deep inside I knew something was missing in my life. God used the influence of some Christian friends and a supportive youth pastor to help me understand that what I was missing was a relationship with Jesus Christ. I was saved during a youth revival at McElwain Baptist church in Birmingham, Alabama, in the spring of 1982. Since becoming a Christian, following Jesus has given my life purpose, and reason.
Where is the favorite place you've lived?
My father works for a small company... maybe you have heard of it…IBM. I like to say IBM stands for "I've Been Moved". That was the case for my childhood, we were transferred to four different locations and each one was quite unique and special in its own way. The same is true now with my own family, for too we have lived in several places predominantly in the south. So to be honest, in one way or another every place is pretty special.
What is your best childhood memory?
That's a tough one because there are so many great memories. If I had to narrow it down…I would have to say it was the two and half years in Rochester Minnesota. Coming from the south we had never experienced snow and cold like that, up there they measure the snow by the feet. I have fond memories of building snow forts, ice skating at school and one winter my father helped us kids build a ramp in the backyard out of snow to sled down. We would slide off the back deck of the house and down into the yard…it was awesome. As a child it seemed 50 feet tall, I believe it was only about 8 feet. That ramp finally melted away around the middle of April.
What sports team (if any) do you always root for?
My favorite sport is football and I tend to pull for players and coaches who are believers rather than one particular team. One team in particular I tend to root for…is whatever team Tony Dungy is coaching.
Who is your current favorite musician?
For praise and worship I like "Philip Craig and Dean" and for contemporary I like "Casting Crowns"
Other than the bible, what book are you reading now?
What in the world is going on? By Dr. David Jeremiah.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
A camp ground off the Blue Ridge Parkway in the beautiful Smokey Mountains of NW North Carolina.
What vacation spot have you always wanted to go, but you haven't yet?
There are actually three: the Holy Lands, Alaska and Hawaii.
What would be a perfect Friday night for you or your family?
A favorite family night in my opinion would consist of all of us sitting around a campfire talking and laughing and telling story while eating smores and roasting marshmallows. Just being together.
What is your favorite food?
Surf and turf baby…a fresh Maine Lobster nestled up close to a big ole Filet cooked to perfection.
Do you have any pets?
You would have to bring that up... actually it's more like a miniature petting zoo. I (no we) have a dog named Blue (due to her blue eyes), a black cat named Midnight, a rabbit named Daisy, a guinea pig name Funky, and three of the coolest fish any one would ever want.
